Laura Meneses del Carpio was a Peruvian biochemist and the wife of Pedro Albizu Campos. In 1920 she became the first Latin American woman accepted to Radcliffe College at Harvard. For decades, U.S. authorities denied her visas to visit her imprisoned husband in Puerto Rico; she later used her appointment as a UN special envoy to advocate for Puerto Rican political prisoners.
