Track and field athlete, Olympic gold medalist in 100m hurdles (Tokyo 2020)

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (born 1996) is a Puerto Rican track and field athlete who won the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021) — Puerto Rico's second Olympic gold medal and a victory that further cemented the island's identity as an independent sporting nation.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, to a Puerto Rican mother, Camacho-Quinn chose to represent Puerto Rico in international competition. Her Tokyo performance was dominant:
- She set an Olympic record of 12.26 seconds in the semifinals
- She won the final in 12.37 seconds, defeating world-class competition

Her victory was celebrated across Puerto Rico and the diaspora:
- Coming during the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing economic crisis, the gold medal was a source of collective joy
- Her choice to represent Puerto Rico — despite being born and raised on the mainland — highlighted the deep identity connection between the diaspora and the island
- She became a symbol of Puerto Rican excellence and resilience

Camacho-Quinn's gold, following Puig's in 2016, demonstrated that Puerto Rico's Olympic success was not a one-time event but a pattern — a colonized people consistently competing at the highest level under their own flag.
